The ninth record is not just a collection of songs, but a concept album that developed alongside an entire movie. The Sognametal legends declared the mission of exploring new musical paths, which they have pushed to even greater heights on their new record ‘Wild North West’. The band arose in 2004 from the ashes of WINDIR after the tragic perishing of Terje ‘Valfar’ Bakken. Leading the black ‘n roll movement in Norway, VREID are the perfect example of that. While embracing the illustrious black metal history as part of their musical heritage, the many iconic bands have now evolved in various directions. We have incorporated our humble respect to many of our heroes in this video, and it was fascinating to see how naturally this song fit into our own universe.” This song and video are a celebration of the fantastic creativity that sprung into creation in the 1960ies and which inspired many great artists ever since. Håvard, who produced our Wild North West, movie produced the music video together with Kim who created the artwork for ‘Solverv’ and ‘Welcome Farewell’. We used our wizard brothers Håvard Nesbø and Kim Holm to create a homage to the crazy world of rock n´ roll. When the song was recorded, we also made video for it. VREID songwriter and bass player Jarle Kvåle comments: “This one of the most important songs for the rock ‘n roll genre and a blueprint for heavy music culture which has grown into a many headed beast in the past seven decades. VREID decided to continue with the project and recorded the song “Paint it Black”, a Rolling Stones cover, which will be premiered tonight at 9 pm CET via the Season of Mist Youtube Channel HERE. Due to well known reasons, the event couldn’t take place. In 2020, Norwegian Black ‘n Roll brigade VREID were invited by the Norwegian Nobel Peace Center and the Inferno Festival to choose and perform a cover as a part of the ‘Songs that changed the world’ series.
