If you're stepping off a moving platform that would leave you stuck with no way to step on again, the platform will automatically move back to you.In one case, it's to save you from wasting an hour waiting for an object to move to the right spot in case you happen to be off alignment even slightly. In some cases, it's to give you a hint to how to solve the puzzle. On some of them, if you stand close enough to the right spot, the game will pull your character to the right spot when you start the puzzle.
